Thanks for letting us know, and well done to find it.

"Panels" (silly name, BTW, for a dock) are the bane of most users' lives 
in most flavours of Linux and screen-manager. They can be incredibly 
difficult and complex to put stuff in and take stuff out.

What is needed is something like the Mac interface, where dragging a 
running application onto the dock sticks it there until explicitly removed.

Regrettably the action required to remove it is dragging it off *back 
onto the desktop*, which is wholly counter-intuitive :-) But I guess 
better than dragging it to the trash, which to the novice or casual user 
implies uninstalling the application. Right-click and "Remove from Dock" 
would do.
