[xubuntu-users] xubuntu goes crazy

hi folks,

so after 4 days of being up xubuntu 12.04 decides to go nuts

1. when clicking on icons it highlights all icons on the desktop

2. when clicking a folder it shows an OPEN menu not letting me double click

3. when logging out the log in screen wont take my password and gets
elongated across the screen

i do use standby at night when i am not on the computer. and its on
during the day

computer is fully up to code with updates

i have not modified anything everything is still stock xubuntu 12.04
as in repo list etc hasnt been touched

rebooting everything seems ok for now...

any ideas of why it would just go crazy all of a sudden?
