Try to boot from an older kernel, and delete the newer one .
For "techies":
boot into cdrom, cd to the root dir of you system on HD, as root do:
chroot .
and then you're running the "disk operating system" as is, the system on
disc ;-)
You can then startx and delete some kernels too ...
