One can always re-install:

    as root, apt-get install gparted

I also find great use for

    palimpsest

a GUI disk manager that provides a LOT of info. Also known as "Disk Utility" 
on the "Settings" menu. Just be careful as it is easy to mess up a perfectly 
good install if you mess with partitions. Palimpsest is not always installed 
by default
