[xubuntu-users] To James: consideration of Vim and other text editors

I am using vim-gtk to write this note, and I set the options that you mention,
James, in your note, namely:
:set textwidth=80
:set formatoptions=t
and it does indeed appear to wrap text, so if you are using Vim primarily to
compose text, it looks like it does it very well with these two options set.
There are certainly other text editors to use, and if you truly want a console
editor, and not a GTK-based graphical user interface, Vim can certainly do the
job in that way, too.
There's nothing wrong with choosing gedit or leafpad either. In fact, since I
don't write code nearly as often as I used to, and I don't have to be constantly
editing long existing documents, I frequently use leafpad, whereas I used to use
either Vi (in various forms, including the original vi, elvis, vim, vile, and
even levee). Vim is a very good choice, but it's not the only choice. What you
will find, however, is that the vast majority of distributions either include
Vim, or in the very worst case, it can be loaded from most package managers, or
even downloaded in an archive format and loaded; it's definitely available in
Xubuntu.
