It works fine, I use bash aliases for several menu programs on my system 
- when you launch programs, they are executed through the user's 
background bash processes. If you wanted this system wide, you could at 
it to /etc/bash.bashrc. That way you wouldn't be removing / modifying 
system files like Thunar, which can sometimes have unexpected results.
