Greetings. I hate to trouble the list, but I can not seem to get my head
around my issue here. I installed Xubuntu on an Dell Inspiron 530
desktop (on which I have run Ubuntu since day one some 4-5 years ago).
It has a VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation G86 [GeForce
8300 GS] (rev a1) card. For the first time I'm having what appear to be
unsolvable problems with graphics.
Nvidia Info:
OS: Linux-x86
NVIDIA Driver Version 173.14.35
X Server Info:
Server Ver. #: 11.0
Server VIN: The X.Org Foundation
Server Vendor Version: 1.11.3
NV-CONTROL Version: 1.16
Screens: 1
I'm not sure how I did it, but I got the 295.40 version. Then I found
302.17, added the ppa and installed the driver. I had trouble right
away. So I reverted to a previous version from the "Additional Drivers"
gui, and wound up with 173.14.35. When I go to the synaptics package
manager I can not find 295.40; nvidia-current and -settings takes me
back to 302.17.
So the question to which I can not seem to find the answer: can I get
the latest version of 295.40, and if so, how... where?
TIA.
And, btw, I am super impressed with Xubuntu!
