I rename the jre.... directory to temp and reload OpenJDK Java 6 runtime and web start and Icetea Java plugins from the Ubuntu Software Centre. The version is still 20 and not 26 for which I had installed the jdk...bin file. Seems like the Ubuntu Software Center still got the update 20 version.

I don't know how to solve your problem by I'm sure that ;
- jre-6u26-linux-i586.bin is what you need
- jdk-6u26-linux-i586.bin is for developers only

I also notice there are two sources of Java downloads: one from SunMicrosystems and the other Java itself. I got two downloaded java from the two different sources jdk-6u26-linux-i586.bin and jre-6u26-linux-i586.bin. Are they the same or I should be using the jdk version instead with jdk related instructions. My present java is Java SE 6 update 20, SunMicrosystem on linux 2.6.35-30-generic. Then do I need to remove this version before installing update 26 and then how to remove? Again thanks a million times.

Dear Fellows,
I had downloaded from Java website the file jre-6u26-linux-i586.bin which is meant for Linux(with a penguin icon). I am new to Xubuntu. How do I delete Java update 20 with this supposedly update 26? I also noted that I have installed openjdk java icetea from the Ubuntu Software Center. Please kindly email me the step by step guide to do the above. Thanks a million times.
