[xubuntu-users] HOW TO MOUNT USB DEVICE

Checked the Troubleshooting doc, and ran dmesg out of curiosity....and 
near the end got a whole bunch of this:
>  FAT: Filesystem panic (dev sdb1)
>      fat_get_cluster: invalid cluster chain (i_pos 0)
The device now shows on the desktop since I changed the setting to MSC, 
but all the folders are padlocked, and I don't seem to be able to change 
that. The are files inside some folders that are mp3. When I try to 
change the permissions to read and write, it's denied.
