Hi Mike,

I believe the development version of garcon (the menu library used by Xfce)
supports menu merging, a feature that was needed to be able to use the
Alacarte menu editor. This should be used in the next version of Xfce, but I
suspect that if Garcon is released separately that someone might patch Xfce
4.6 to use it. It will take a while before that happens though.

The next version of Xfce (4.8) is planned for April 2010, which you might be
able to use in the next version of Xubuntu (10.04).
