[xubuntu-users] System working slowly-How to make it fast?

Dear Sir,
I have installed Ubuntu-8.04 Desktop edition in my PC.
At first time, it used to work fast now even for getting log in screen it takes
some time (even 1 minute) after updating the packages.
All the applications are starting after some time.
You please kindly suggest me to get the system work fast.
