I've had it installed for a while, from around 8.10 I think so it
wasn't added on by the 9.10 upgrade.

It turns out that one can work around the problem by switching to full
screen and then back again.  Also, if you drag the bottom right corner
of the window to change size the problem doesn't show up!  It's when
you drag the top left corner that the problem is worst.
