[xubuntu-users] Need help with wireless, too

Dear list,

after I read Lee's post I thought I might ask this nagging question here.

I got a Sony Vaio PCG-TR1MP, a small sub-notebook of the pre-netbook
era. On it's i855gm chipset sits a ipw2100 wlan card, which seemed
pretty straight forward to me but turned out to be a pain in the neck.

I can't connect with a Linksys wrt54gl using the network-manager applet.
The device "sees" the ssids and tries to connect but can't associate and
doesn't get an IP. The router logs don't even show any connection attempt.

But:
If I use a feature called "wireless survey" on the router, the notebook
can connect. I have not debugged the router's firmware 'bout this (it's
called tomato, very nice alternative for running several wlan-devices -
openwrt derivate), because in my office I also cannot connect to a
Linksys wap54 access point.

A college of mine also got a subnotebook with a ipw2100 and can't
connect to this ap either.

So, if some of You coult point me in some directions, I would be deeply
grateful.

Anyhow, please don't take serious actions, got several other machines
running Xubuntu without a hazzle.

Yours,

Martin
