Hi Reinier,
You can remove a panel by right-clicking a panel, then selecting "Customize
panel". The Panel Manager will then pop up, from which you can remove panels
by clicking the "-" next to the panel name. You'll then probably will want
to add the menu, logout button etc. to the bottom panel by right-clicking it
and selecting "Add New Item".
