[xubuntu-users] Xfce source code?

Hey all,

If one were to want to try and modify Xfce would you 
just download the source and start hacking the code?

Is there any kind of documentation to be had?

To be specific, I would like to make some fairly 
simple changes to the way the workspace selector 
operates and what it displays.

Anyone do any work on the code that could get me 
going in the right direction?

Am I correct in assuming it's written in C/C++?
