Subject: Landing bluez5 in wily

Hey there,

Ubuntu is still using bluez4 at the moment, which is years old and
unsupported for quite some time. We discussed landing the bluez5 update
previous cycle [1] but that didn't happen, mostly because the touch
stack was not ready.

While Ubuntu Touch still not there, people are working on it and it was
decided that we shouldn't block on them and get the update landing so we
can move things forward and stabilize things before the LTS.

The ppa used to prepare the transition is
https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-desktop/+archive/ubuntu/transitions/ and
currently includes updated bluez packages as well as rebuilds/updates
for GNOME/KDE/Unity desktops (other flavors should be handled as well,
the blueman version in wily handles bluez4 and 5, cinnamon uses
gnome-bluetooth, etc)

Testing of the ppa and feedback/comments would be welcome since we would
like to land that transition in the next week or so.

Thanks,
Sebastien Bacher

[1] https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/desktop-v-bluez5

--
ubuntu-devel mailing list
ubuntu-devel@lists.ubuntu.com
Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-devel
