    This would also be a good time to warn people about troublesome
    hardware platforms.  Engineers often are able to experiment until
    they get their rig working but what about the non-computer-technical
    end users?<br>

    For example (my own experience of this past year), it's too easy to
    fall into the trap of one type of Intel graphics is equivalent to
    another in terms of vendor support.  The i915 kernel module and X
    xserver-xorg-video-intel driver have performed well for Intel
    in-house graphics.  However, the gma500_gfx kernel module and X
    xserver-xorg-video-modesetting driver have been used as a
    one-size-fits-all solution for all of the Intel / PowerVR

    There probably other hardware stories.  Many of these unfortunate
    experiences are addressed as time goes by but, in some cases, the
    vendor has declined to provide support for Linux (E.g. Intel /
    PowerVR SGX 545 graphics).<br>
