Testing 18.04: can't log in after closing laptop lid

I'm reporting a similar problem using Suspend on a desktop running
Xubuntu Core 18.04 (20 March build plus daily updates)
Reboot restores original performance.
Amd Athlon 7550 dual-core
3GB RAM
BIOS
Nvidia graphics card (but currently using nouveau driver)
