Subject: [for xubuntu-devel] Killing thunar-vfs and hal for good

Hello Xubuntu developers,

in #ubuntu-devel we just had another case of an user who still has
"hal" installed. We shoudl definitively kill hal completely now, it's
long overdue and definitively is broken in saucy now.

thunar-vfs is one of the few remaining reverse dependencies, with
"squeeze" being the only user of thunar-vfs left. Everything else in
XFCE got apparently ported to gvfs. In #xubuntu-devel I just got told
that squeeze is rather crashy too, and that there's a pending rewrite
upstream at some point. Would anyone mind if I kill squeeze and
thunar-vfs from saucy, and we reintroduce squeeze if/once there's a
gvfs rewrite?

I filed https://launchpad.net/bugs/1221254 about tracking the
remaining bits. I'd appreciate if you could give some statement there
about removing squeeze.

Thanks!

Martin
