I emailed the author of pavucontrol about this a few days ago and I
have not got any response concerning whether or not he is going to
continue to develop pavucontrol.

Some system tool front-ends would be nice by default:
grsync (for backups)
gsmartcontrol (for easy hard-disk health monitoring control)
gparted (for easy partitioning and manual file system checks that are
useful e.g. with removable drives.)
