upgraded xubuntu to 10.10 alpha3, nvidia issues?

I upgraded to alpha3 of xubuntu 10.10.  The logon screen does not appear
now.
However I can logon with recovery where failsafeX will bring up the display.
 I suspect that nvidia config or driver is the issue.
Are there suggestions?
