Sorry, but I think it is not xscreensaver/gnome-screensaver problem.
The problem arises, if there exists xlock executable in PATH and no
user is logged in, as xflock4 uses xlock then. So either xlock /
xflock4 should not lock screen for user gdm, or xflock4 should not be
called at all when in login screen.
