Hi Jarno, *;

and first off, thanks a bunch for your comment on that, much appreciated.
Well, let's see: After suffering doing everyday work using GNOME for a week
or so, yesterday in the evening I decided to jump in head first again,
purged most GNOME stuff and, this morning, again ended up here. Things:

(a) I resolved why my xrandr script isn't working anymore, pretty stupid
mistake obviously - in 9.04 my devices used to be named LVDS and VGA whereas
in 9.10 they're VGA1 and LVDS1 obviously. Bummer. :/

(b) Anyway: The crashes while trying to login still appeared. Attached an
xsession-errors file from one of these logins. dmesg does some complaining
like this, but asides that, it seems to generally work now.

Things I tried:

- cleaning ~/.cache/ - no result.

- removing ~/.config/xfce4-session/ - no result.

- brute force, after not knowing anymore what to peek for: removing
monitor.xml and virtually everything related to xfce4 and/or gnome-session
in ~/.config -> success!

By now, I am working, gonna see how this will be tomorrow after rebooting.
Meanwhile: Ideas, anyone? Does XFCE4 also in some way keep screen
resolutions stored to restore them after logging off and back on again?

Cheers & thanks in advance,
Kristian
