You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I am running Xubuntu Edgy, and I am trying to get my microphone to work.
Every time I open Volume Control though, if I try moving the 'Capture'
slider up, the slider falls back down to the bottom immediately. Using
amixer I did set capture to:

Simple mixer control 'Capture',0
  Capabilities: cvolume cswitch cswitch-joined
Capture channels: Front Left - Front Right
  Limits: Capture 0 - 15
Front Left: Capture 15 [100%] [on]
Front Right: Capture 15 [100%] [on]

So maybe it is on but just not updating graphically. If 'Capture' really
is on, I need to find out what is wrong with my mic.

** Affects: xfce4-mixer (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: Confirmed
