Hmm, that spreadsheet works fine. You may need to have the gnumeric-doc package install for the About dialog, although that seems a tad odd. In any case, everything works for me, pi, sin, log, About. To get the version of gnumeric you have installed, run:
   dpkg -l | grep gnumeric
in a terminal.
