Having a greater number of sponsors who can help get Xubuntu packages uploaded can only help and not hinder Xubuntu's progress, with the end goal of making it easier for Xubuntu developers to get MOTU upload rights, and work on the derivative directly.

That's a cliché (and a false hope)...
Except Cody and Mario (and Jani, Gauvain and I) who are involved in the
packaging (merges, new packages), nobody else is...
That's not a sponsoring problem (never been any bottle neck here), there
is just nobody who wants to contribute to the packaging.

And currently, having more sponsors seems more like a big issue to me.
Xfce4-notes-plugin version 1.6.0 has been released some time ago. A
MOTU-hopeful who wants to increase the length of his lp/+packages page
decides to package it, and asks for a sponsor.
<insert here a random MOTU> reviews the packaging, it's good, and
uploads it. And then, people upgrading from the 1.4.1 version lose their
old notes and old configuration. And someone really involved in xubuntu
will have fun to upload a new 1.6.0really1.4.1 tarball until a fix is
found (or develop it).
And this simply because there is a "greater number of sponsors", which
aren't interested in xfce at all, don't read the xfce-dev mailing lists...

Anyway, I wonder why (yesterday you told me about the blue blue sky) we
are discussing something which has obviously already been decided "above"...
