hi,
I'm using an old computer and I couldn't use Ubuntu, Kubuntu & Xubuntu live
CDs till Memory was upgraded. I am talking about Ubuntu 5.1, Kubuntu
6.xxand Xubuntu 6 (For All these even the Installed version with 256
MB Swap
space is a bit sluggish on my P3 500Mhz Computer. Suggetions to improve
performance will be welcome.
p.s. These Distributions are sluggish only when it comes to boot up and
program loading times. after that i dont find much of a difference when
running a single desktop app... but when i deplay a simple apache server
alongside (Not much requests comming in coz it's my testing server) I have
to wait for ages to get my work done.

I did a quick test on two of my computers with the memtest utility some time
back. One of my machines was using a P2 300 MHz on a i810 chipset
Motherboard. The P3 500Mhz was using an older i440Bx chipset. Suprisingly i
found that the P2 system gave a greates Read/Write speed to The RAM.... So
we must consider the chipset when we are testing ram intensive applications
like a lIve CD..
