USB Mount behavior

As per Jani's request I have upgraded to Edgy and am trying to report bugs
as I find them.
However, I have come upon one that I am not sure if it is a bug or just a
change in behavior.  When I plug in my USB thumb drive, MP3, player, etc.
They appear on my desktop, however I can no longer double click them to
mount them.  I have to right click and choose mount. It is a little bit
annoying.

My bigger question is what drive all of this in the backend?  What program,
where are the logs etc.
