What statement(s) are you referring to in particular?

For those of you who weren't following the conversation as it happened,
Oliver's statement is contextualised in the fact that xscreensaver
and gnome-screensaver offer very similar end features, but an Xfce-
based distribution would understandably not want the GNOME "pollution."
