Yes get rid of the mouse!!!

But please check how long it takes to boot up on a p2 with 128mb of ram before removing. Developers too often make these decisions without thinking about other systems then their p4. On my system the mouse splash screen is on for only a few seconds but long enough to still notice it. Probably four or five seconds. (actually I just timed it with my watch it took over 10 seconds, though I had openoffice and other apps open which it reloaded.) I would say that it comes up for at least 5 seconds on my system amd 700mhz pc with 256 mb ram.

Change the animation but don't remove it.
