xscreensaver should already be started AFAIK from /etc/xdg/xfce4/xinitrc
(/etc/X11/xdg/xfce4/xinitrc in breezy) . You can either put the
gnome-volume-manager invocation there
too, or in the session settings turn the start gnome services flag on. But
the latter is also visible to the user
so the first method may be better.
