The X is more compelling and relates to the brand Xubuntu. The mouse, to most users is parachuted into the logo from Xfce (which most users donèt know about). So for the GIF how about a rotating X??

well, IMHO, despite of which logo we endup using, please "listers",
consider using Free As In Freedom formats only. It is important that as
project flavour of Ubuntu, we play by the statements in the Ubuntu
Manifesto.

Every time we upload files, every time we use proprietary application to
produce artwork for a FLOSS project we are also validating Free as In
Freedom sucks and that we don't care about its principles or its "all
this years" efforts to make good technology available for us.

Let's work using GPL'ed programs, producing GPL'ed (or any CC'ed
compatible) files, uploading both 'source files' (SVG?) and 'closed
file', this way we all can work on ideas we have based on ohter people's
work and we don't have to reinvent the wheel :p
