Just did a test:
- GNOME, not XFce4, but I don't think that's important here
- latest dapper packages

I uninstalled all -esd plugins for gst0.8 & gst0.10 and quod libet still
plays fine...

Maybe you have to change the output-settings with gstreamer-properties?
