Well that's true for ubuntu and kubuntu as well, not all desktop software in
there
is strictly gnome or kde (firefox, OOo) although it is more so than with
xfce.
Either way I am not comfortable with logos that are very far off the ubuntu
one,
that are not human circles at all for instance.

As Daniele said to me yesterday, Ubuntu has no gnome foot in its logo,

true as  well. But those could not be nicely blended with  the ubuntu circle
and they're not
as cute  as the mouse ;). But as it has been said the gears are there to
hint at kde.

But the running mouse in the ubuntu logo during Xfce start is really

yes, although I need to put back the original fading mouse as well which is
just overwritten now.
And need to disable startup notification somehow while the splash is running
since it is a progress
indicator by itself,
