About the music player: I know that xfmedia is kind of
integrated, but BMP kicks the crap out of it. It looks
good, it can use skins, it needs about the same
resources as XMMS, and, most importantly, it can use a
lot of its plugins. Xfmedia seems underpar when
compared with it. 
One advantage is that it uses xine and that means that
Xubuntu can use fewer media engines. 

The lightweight-gtk2 image editing app seems a far
harder to find. Also a lightweight browser or office
suite. Two of the best choices (Opera + Softmaker's
apps) are non-free, unfortunately.
