The workaround (remove profile= from schroot config):

achiang at trusty:/etc/schroot/chroot.d$ grep profile sbuild-utopic-amd64 
achiang at trusty:/etc/schroot/chroot.d$ 

achiang at trusty:~$ schroot -c utopic-amd64
(utopic-amd64)achiang at trusty:~$
