@Dave R
Unfortunately, Launchpad isn't 'my' database. If it were I would manage it
differently,
with clearer delineations between versions of Ubuntu, rather than allowing
different
version reports to confuse and confound effective solution finding !
Your comment about libinklevel and inkblot working with an earlier version
is a good
example of re-compilation for a different kernel and core interfaces
producing different
results, whilst I have found that mencoder only works properly in its Ubuntu
7.10 or
LinuxMint-4 guise.
To experience and share some of my past frustrations, I would suggest that
you raise
a new Bug Report against Ubuntu 9.04, which despite rather arbitrary LTS
declarations
seems to be the most stable and reliable version since Ubuntu 7.10
A simple, unambiguous report title can help, but beware of rather arbitrary,
'timescales are
sacrosanct' rulings that deflect you from obtaining a satisfactory outcome
as there's a very
strong culture of creating the illusion of progress by not tackling awkward
problems !
Good luck - Bruce R
