I had the same problem that Bushman02 reported, but in Karmic.  I
couldn't install libstdc++5 because it wasn't available in Karmic, but I
did already have libstdc++6 installed.

The problem went away when I tried to uninstall Lightning using the
Thunderbird add-ons dialog.  The attempt to uninstall actually failed,
because when I restarted Thunderbird, Lightning was still there but now
it worked, with my calendar all nicely displayed.  Now that it's
working, albeit for the wrong reason, I'm going to leave it alone.
