Looking through the dpkg log, I found this:

resolvconf: Error: /etc/resolv.conf must be a symlink

which appears to be bug #324233 . I could reproduce this problem like
this:

- check that resolvconf is NOT installed
- install pdns-recursor, start it up
- install resolvconf package, note that /etc/resolv.conf becomes a symlink to /etc/resolvconf/run/resolv.conf
- OVERWRITE /etc/resolv.conf symlink with the actual file
- try to uninstall pdns-recursor (or just try to stop it), and it will fail with the message

gimre at ximi:/var/lib/dpkg/info$ sudo /etc/init.d/pdns-recursor stop
resolvconf: Error: /etc/resolv.conf must be a symlink

When uninstalling pdns-recursor, the prerm script tries to stop it
first, but because of the above _resolvconf_ error, it will fail, thus
the package removal will fail.

Marking this bug duplicate of bug #324233 .

   Network Manager 0.7 doesn't use resolvconf to remove nameserver info if it didn't use resolvconf for adding its nameserver info - wipes /etc/resolv.conf link
