I can confirm the following commands restore all functionality:
sudo ln -s /usr/bin/gsim /usr/share/tkgate-1.8.7/libexec/gsim
sudo ln -s /usr/bin/tkgate /usr/share/tkgate-1.8.7/libexec/tkgate
