Now running emacs "23/1+1-4ubuntu2+22.2+0ubuntu6.1" 
Because 23 is now available (more or less), I'm steering clear of "-snapshot"

Call this "Works For Me" I guess -- I don't see the problem presently.

Off hand (IMNSHO), "emacsen" should put compilation logs somewhere
easier to not lose.  Maybe I can get into it and come up with something,
but any random monkey would probably finish the task more quickly.
