Binary package hint: mplayer
mencoder crashes when I try to transcode a realmedia stream dump. It was
dumped with:
mplayer -dumpstream
rtsp://realcluster.forethought.net:554/ari/registeredonly/physics_harriman_20031014.rm\?cloakport=8080
I then tried to transcode with:
mencoder stream2.dump -oac pcm -ovc copy -o stream2.avi
mencoder stream2.dump -oac pcm -ovc copy -o stream2.mpeg
mencoder stream2.dump -oac mp3lame -lameopts preset=128 -ovc lavc
-lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vbitrate=1200 -ofps 25 -of avi -o out.avi
mencoder stream.dump -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vpass=1 -oac
mp3lame -lameopts vbr=3 -o a.avi -ffourcc DX50 && mencoder stream.dump
-ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vpass=2 -oac mp3lame -lameopts vbr=3 -o
a.avi -ffourcc DX50
and so on, always getting the same output:

I can play stream.dump using mplayer.
Please see the attached backtrace. I'm using an up to date Karmic system. The mencoder version is:
