Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: msttcorefonts

ttf-mscorefonts-installer failed to install or upgrade
... *also said*
IO Error [err no 9] bad file descriptor
....... in the message window that came up.

was updating from 9.04 to 9.10
Had clicked on update manager "Update to 9.10 and inserted ubuntu 9.10 desktop edition when prompted
( I had tried to update from just disc several times and nothing happened, friend told me to do it from on line)
Reason I wanted to update was because computer would freeze in Yahoo mail or You tube links

was right at end of process and error message came up and computer
(laptop) froze

am uncertain what to do next, My ubuntu 'expert' is gone off to school for the semester
I expected Ubuntu 9.10 to put everything up to date and eliminate the freeze problems and restore sound {sound was never as much volume in 9.04 as it was in 8.10 and I never figured how to fix
(I am a newbe from windows into Ubuntu with 8.10 and most things are still over my head. I worked land engineering 28 years, but dont understand language terms in Ubuntu help. )

would be happy to provide any other info OR receive any any specific
help .. Grin .. genntri at Yahoo.com
