Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: maxima
Running the command
factor(x^4-4*x^2+1), modulus=3;
in maxima 5.17.1-1ubuntu1 causes the following error
Universal error handler called recursively (:ERROR NIL
CONDITIONS::CLCS-UNIVERSAL-ERROR-HANDLER
""
"Couldn't protect")
Universal error handler called recursively (:ERROR NIL
CONDITIONS::CLCS-UNIVERSAL-ERROR-HANDLER
"" "Couldn't protect")
Maxima encountered a Lisp error:
Error in CONDITIONS::CLCS-UNIVERSAL-ERROR-HANDLER [or a callee]: Caught
fatal error [memory may be damaged]
Running it a second time can cause a segfault.
This occurs on both i686 and x86-64.
Strangely enough, Debian testing package 5.17.1-1 does not exhibit the
same problem.
** Affects: maxima (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
