While this is not a terribly accurate test:

david at sagan:~$ time gwibber -v -d
DEBUG:root:Launched from /usr/bin
DEBUG:root:Running Gwibber from the system path
Updating...
Updating...

real	0m8.803s
user	0m5.910s
sys	0m0.840s

This is measured from start up till gwibber is rendered on the screen with posts. Nearly 9 seconds isn't good enough, I am sure we can do better.
