Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: wine

I can't tell if this is an issue with pule audio or WINE.

I only have one program installed with wine, "verse perfect" it can be
found here: http://mcgill-english-dictionary-of-rhyme-
verse.software.informer.com/download/

The installation of "verse perfect" was fine, no sound issues then. As
soon as I launched verse perfect through wine, my sound stops playback
in rhythmbox, flash, system sounds, etc. I tried:
killall
pulseaudio
this did not help. When i reboot the machine my sound
works fine again.

Also this bug is only with the 64 bit install of Ubuntu 9.10. I can not
reproduce the problem on a 32 bit install of Ubuntu 9.10.

I am on Ubuntu 9.10, 64 bit
WINE version 1.0.1
