Well i installed ubuntu originaly a few years back and 'upgraded' to KDE
kubuntu so that is why on my install a lot of gnome packages still exits
including gnome-appearance-properties but i now noticed that gnome-
appearance-properties also starts the gnome-settings-daemon which indeed
does the trick.

When starting a new KDE session or rebooting the bug is present again so
i added gnome-settings-daemon to kde autostart which solved this problem
too (System-settings / Advanced / Autostart).
