I am willing to act as mentor. I do not want to maintain the package,
because I have never used it. It would not get the love from me that it
needs to.

The license issue (bug #511988) needs to be solved for both distribution
(not only Debian). You can directly upgrade the package to the latest
version and resolve the license issue for this version.
