I think you misread the schedule, then. Beta *freeze* was on 24
September, but the beta release is scheduled for 1 October.

http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily/current/ is always just daily builds,
and sometimes those happen to be identical to a milestone release but
you won't be able to tell reliably based on timestamps. The beta release
will be published on releases.ubuntu.com.

Anyhow, that aside - could you please attach /var/log/installer/syslog
from your installation to this bug report? I may be able to tell from
that what your problem is.
