Thankyou Felix, I was aware that the omission was intentional.   It is
interesting that Gajim has group messaging enabled OOTB, which is very
useful for corporate users like myself, who run their own jabber server.

It may be that this wishlist package may become irrelevant as in Karmic,
Empathy is replacing Pidgin as the default messaging client.  I tested
Empathy on our in-house jabber server today and found it also does not
allow group messaging.

I will investigate this issue further with Empathy and see if the
functionality can be added.  It would be nice to have a core IM client
in Ubuntu with this functionality for those corporate users like myself.
